I hope to have a range report in the next 10 days or so. I will take a look during my next Cabela’s/Bass Pro Shop run, (a few hours’ drive) to see if they have some. I have read a lot of good things about them. I have never looked through an Athlon scope. What sealed it in the end was the large discount on the Leupold Mark 5 through a friend. I thought the Vortex was a bit heavy but really liked the glass, Nightforce was just out of my price range. I looked at a lot of Nightforce scopes and Vortex before ending back up at the Mark 5. I am generally a buy once cry once kind of guy. I was looking something more this go around. That scope has taken all the punishment I have handed out and performed every time. I bought a limb saver for the range and that made it very manageable. Ill admit on the range its not all that fun to shoot, but hunting its no issue at all. To date I have always hunted with my Leupold Mark 4.5x14x50 on either my go to hunting rifle M1a NM, or for larger game (elk) my. I have a Tikka t3 300wsm and after reading a lot of posts on here it seems a lot of people have Muzzle brake on 300s. I am wanting to try my hand at some local meets as well as hunt with this scope, hence the 5x25 choice. In this case the Leupold Mark 5 is already a done deal. Please post a range report on yours when you get a chance. When I get it all together, I will post on how the MPA brake performs on my HMR. I have a line on significantly discounted NIB Leupold Mark 5 5x25x56 so will be ordering that this week. I figure even if these brakes work half as well as claimed I am GTG. The Weatherby is just a bit much for me and the thin barrel profile does not lend itself to installing a brake. 300 Weatherby Mag, (also without a brake). 300WMs’ I have fired and my Weatherby Mark5. The Terminator T3 will be the brake I use on my 300 HCM too. My personal recoil handling ability falls squarely between any of the unbraked. There is a reason the Terminator T5 is the most used brake in ELR. That will be my go too if the MPA brake does not work out. People also have a lot of good things to say about the Hellfire Self Timing Muzzle Brake as well I can say installing and uninstalling is a snap. Since I am still running down a new scope to install on this rifle, I have not had a chance to try it out yet. 30 Caliber Cowl Induction Muzzle Brake from Eurooptic, I have also read the that Precision Rifle Blog brake/suppressor review and based on that purchased the Masterpiece Arms. I plan on using it for elk hunts as well so I did not go with the 6.5 Creedmore. The end result of all of the above is like you I purchased a Bergara B14 HMR in 300WM in the last couple of weeks. Plus, I live in the dessert so pretty lucky on the whole longer shooting range availability thing. Add in a decent five figure bonus and pay raise after a good company year and I am back to finally give this a go! I have access to two 1k ranges locally and a third about two hours’ drive from here. However, getting married and having two kids delayed things for that decade plus time span. I have been very interested in longer distance shooting and entering local matches for about 11 years. But I have on the site many times and have read thousands of SH posts as I am interested in shooting out to 1000 yds. I am a new member of Snipers Hide having recently signed up.
